Comic Book Hero and similar bold styles are typically unsuitable for memorial work — the heroic posing reads as celebratory rather than commemorative.

Working With Limited Photos

Many memorial commissions involve photos taken years ago, or just a handful of images. Send what you have. In your order notes, describe how you remember them: "ears always slightly back when relaxed", "the grey around her muzzle in her final year", "the way he sat with one paw tucked under".

We render from memory as much as from photograph. If a reference image shows your dog at eight but you'd prefer them rendered at three, before the grey came in, note that. The portrait serves your memory, not documentary accuracy.
